The Empowerment Institute, Inc. was established in 2006 and is a tax-exempt non-stock corporation in accordance with Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The organization began services to the community in the winter of 2006 via cognitive behavioral therapy for the House of Good Success for Men in Washington, D.C. In 2007, cognitive behavioral therapy continued for the community in services to youth via the STEP Network in Suitland, Maryland. Over the years, community empowerment continued through the provision of programs and services for the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections, Youthbuild, and SHIPS (Substance Abuse and HIV Integrated Prevention Services for African-American Women). Most recently, The Empowerment Institute’s Flagship Program, Youth Empowerment Services (YES), was initiated in the Town of Capitol Heights, Maryland to further economically empower the youth by preparing them to obtain and keep employment as well as placing them in jobs. In the spring of 2013, the YES program also began to operate as a part of a collaborative in the Town of Capitol Heights to expand offerings to the youth. Through this collaboration, the Capitol Heights Youth Partnership was formed to add mentoring services and youth social entrepreneurship.
Thus, we offer three Programs in service to the community: Youth Empowerment Services (YES), Parents Advancing Youth (PAY) for parents of youth who participate in the YES program, and the Capitol Heights Youth Partnership (CHYP) via a collaborative with other local nonprofit organizations.
The Empowerment Institute exists to empower, equip, and engage youth and adults so that they can succeed now and in the future.
Youth and adults will be empowered through the possession of the ability, authority, and action to make good decisions and implement needed changes in their own lives.
